01

ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT

Support locally owned businesses.

Encourage and support community motivated projects.

Enforce the “principles” Title VI law and assure the equitable distribution of federal tax dollars to all communities.

02

AFFORDABLE
HOUSING

Put oversight in place to assure the proper evaluation and sell of properties owned by private citizens and their families.

Property owners and their families should not just be asked what do they want for their property if the potential buyer already knows the potential worth of the property.

03

EDUCATION

Address violence and create safe learning environments.

Create curriculums that prepare students for life “after” graduation.

Assure students graduate high school with a diploma that has prepared them for college, or a skill or trade that has prepared them to earn an income.

04

HEALTH CARE

Develop a “Patient Bill of Rights” emphasizing legal informed consent regarding any surgical procedure or medical treatment recommended.

Prevent health care providers and institutions from abandoning or retaliating against patients if they question or challenge their medical recommendations.

Hold hospital administrators and Board Directors responsible for their decisions and actions regarding their oversight of critical health care issues within their institutions.

Encourage the communication and working relationships between private and hospital based physicians.

Allow 24 hour access to telemedicine for pre-emergency room consultation with mid-level health care providers.

Encourage private and close relationships between health care providers and patients to increase patient compliance.

Emphasize preventive care and healthy life style choices.

5

CRIME

Support law enforcement and first responders.

 Enforce the law

Make laws apply to all citizens, regardless of race or social status.

Identify and eliminate any corruption in law enforcement and the judicial system.

DR. THOMAS J.
BROOKS III

Dr. Thomas J. Brooks, III, was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Brooks spent his early years growing up in the John Henry Hale public housing projects.

Dr. Brooks has often stated the neighborhood he grew up in should be considered sacred ground. He proudly states he was able to receive all his formal education and training in historical Black institutions, resulting in his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in 1978.

Dr. Brooks attended Washington Junior High School and received his high school degree from Pearl Senior High in 1970.

Dr. Brooks attended Tennessee State University, where his father was a teacher in the Department of Industrial Education. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee State University with Distinction in 1974.

Dr. Brooks began his association with Meharry Medical College at a very early age while working in the lab of Dr. Henry Moses while still a student at Washington Junior High school.

Dr. Henry Moses would prove to be a major mentor in the life and career of Dr. Brooks.

Dr. Brooks received his medical degree from Meharry Medical college in 1978. Dr. Brooks performed his internship and residency training at the University of Tennessee Clinical Education Center at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Brooks is a board-certified specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. He has closed his private practice, but continues to maintain his license to practice medicine and volunteer his services to the community.

Dr. Brooks opened his medical practice in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1982.

The physicians in his group established Family Health Services, the first Black owned private multi-specialty health care center in the state of Tennessee.

During his medical career, Dr. Brooks worked very closely with community organizations to assure quality health care and personal rights were available to all citizens.

Dr. Brooks served as Vice-President of the NAACP, the Moderator of Operation PUSH, and created the African-American Voters’ Coalition during his career.

Dr. Brooks has stated he has witnessed and understands the health and social challenges facing this nation.

“There will be no easy answers. This is not about me.”
